WY'S WOLVES.

Our partners at Wolf Conservation Center have created an easy letter writing template urging the State of Wyoming to ban the use of snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles to chase down and kill wolves and other animals.

A truly disturbing story about an incident that came out of Daniel, Wyoming on February 29, has made headlines around the world. Cody Roberts, a Daniel resident, chased down a wolf on a snowmobile, crippled the wolf, taped its mouth shut, took it to his home to pose for a horrific photo, and then paraded it around a local bar. After publicly tormenting this injured, traumatized, and suffering young wolf, he killed it. Despite all this cruelty, Roberts was fined only $250 for the brutal crime.

To respond to the international outrage, we have put together a list of actions that you can take from letters to phone calls and even showing up in person to Raise Your Voice for Wyoming's Wolves! This is just another example as to why U.S. Fish & Wildlife's failure to #RelistWolves has far reaching consequences for wildlife in the Northern Rockies.

2. SIGN THIS PETITION

This petition on change.org calls on Sublette County Attorney Clayton Melinkovich and Sublette County Sheriff K.C. Lehr to bring more severe charges against Cody Roberts in effort to hold him accountable and deter others from attempting similar acts of cruelty.

3. CONTACT WYOMING STATE OFFICIALS

Contact Wyoming Governor, Mark Gordon at 307-777-7434, and Wyoming Game and Fish Department Director, Brian Nesvick at 307-777-4600

Be polite and respectful in your communication, but emphasize that the world is watching. Here is a sample phone script you can use:

Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I'm from [Your City].

I'm calling to express my concern in the handling of the recent incident where a wolf was chased, injured, and publicly paraded before being killed by Cody Roberts. This unethical and brutal display of animal cruelty is tarnishing the reputation of the state of Wyoming.

The $250 penalty imposed on Mr. Roberts is not sufficient— he must  be charged with animal cruelty to ensure that justice is served, and to set for the precedent that these heinous acts will not be ignored.

I also strongly urge you to support legislative action to ban wolf & coyote "whacking." The use of snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles to chase and down and kill wolves and coyotes goes far beyond practices of fair-chase and needs to end.

The world is watching. Please take action to ensure this never happens again.

Thank you.
